And Now Ladies and Gentlemen, a Venty-Rant

Today Linus arrived (yay!), but I'm running on such little sleep that I'm quite cranky.
Here's why:
1) My sister neglected to pack so many essential items and has comfortably helped herself to the following of mine:
 -Razor
-Contact solution
-Facial Moisturizer
-Hair brush
-Hair elastics
-Clothing (when I haven't attended to her laundry at a fast enough pace. See when I do my own laundry I do hers as well, because I'm nice like that.)
What pisses me off is that I paid for the vast majority of these items myself and she just says, "Yeah, but Dad will buy us new stuff when we run out." Well! I packed 4 razor blades because that's more than I knew I would need in a 4 month span. However, they've been diminishing at a much escalated rate because of the double-use. Venus razor blades 'aint cheap when you're a student, Becks.

2) "Things" don't work in Scotland and people don't seem to notice or care.
Yes, I am little high-strung and two of my personal mottos are "my way or the highway" (except that makes me think of two unpleasant things; the first being my Grandpa Fred when he's in a foul-prairie irritated mood and the second being that incredibly heinous song "Life is a Highway" that definitely makes my list of worst songs ever) and my more preferred mantra of "if you want something done right do it yourself". I'm a lot like my Grandpa Ovans in that way.
So things that don't work include: Virgin Media having issues with our phone, internet, and cable (I wonder if I'll even be able to post this or if the internet will crap-out in the end), our toilet. Seriously WTF?!!! Our "handyman" has come 4 times now and our toilet still takes up to 6 pumps to flush sometimes. Also, our gas stove won't light without a lighter because the spark-flicker-thingy is broken. Then other things around the city just seem to be broken and people are just kind of bobbing around like "whatever." Yes, I know, life goes on. But as a SERIOUS multi-tasker, inconveniences disturb my order of things.

3) In Canada if you're walking on a busy street (or any street), stairwell, etc. one walks on the right side in mock imitation of cars. Wouldn't it make sense if people here walked on the left side of the street when it was really busy so that people weren't constantly bumping into each other? Well people don't walk on the left, they walk random and do bump into eachother/me a bunch.

4) People here drive like crazy-people. Last time I was in the UK I was in London for 3 days. My family saw somebody get hit by a car during those 3 days. It was scary. Since we've been here one of Meghan's peers at the University got hit by a car when she was out for a run. That's scary. Cars have right-of-way always. The lack of cross-walks is disappointing, and the push-activated cross-walks literally take 3 mins for the light to change to allow pedestrians to cross and then it gives one a grand total of 10 seconds to cross the street. If one isn't fortunate enough to cross the street in such a speedy manner (perhaps due to bumping into people because nobody is walking on the left) then one suffers the consequences of being honked at rudely by one of many ADHD driver.

K, that's all for now folks. Sorry for the drama. In all seriousness I am missing Canadian culture, but I DO NOT want to go back yet. I love Europe and I am having loads of fun.

PS- Due to the mention of both my grandpas I feel I should mention that I love both my Grandpa's very much. I am so fortunate to have all my grandparents alive. Grandpa Fred happens to have a feisty temper, which is mostly just hilarious to me. My Grandpa Ovans is the one I am closer to though. I am his obvious favourite grandchild because of our similarities. Right now he is recovering from a stroke and I feel sad that I can't be with him right now, but happy that he is recovering so well. He is a strong person.

3 cupcakes yesterday. 3 French Macaroons today.

I am finally starting to feel better after my sickness. Today Becka and I went to Pure Gym because my sweet daddy bought us memberships yesterday. Speaking of Daddy, he has his own blog http://365pubs.blogspot.com/ about Edinburgh pubs! Also, I'm currently reading his book on Software Engineering (sounds tedious, but it's actually funny and a good read) http://www.amazon.ca/Lord-Files-Russell-Ovans/dp/0986941808/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1316029783&sr=8-1 ....anyways that's enough shameless family boasting and promoting....On to the photos!

I did a full make-up look today using only lipstick (on my eye-lids, cheeks, and lips) and mascara (used as a liquid eyeliner with my angle brush and of course on the lashes).

French Macaroons. Can someone please say OM NOM?! Delicate, feminine, and delicious.

Candid shot. Today wasn't as freezing.

Not much else to report because I kept pretty much indoors during the insane winds we experienced and I was really-actually-quite very-much sick. Meghan is busy with new grad-school activities, and Becka and I have been enjoying shopping, food, and our new gym. Tomorrow night I'll most likely attend a charity fashion show and next week a fashion lecture.
I'm feeling the pressure from my Dad to get off my bum and go look for a job. ("H&M is hiring and you have a very impressive resume! You could make friends and you don't have to tell them you're leaving in 3 months"). Yeah, but why work when spending my hard-earned summer Peppers cash is just so much more satisfying? I could do 365 shops in 365 days! Or 365 coffee shops? Or even 365 books? Hahaha...jokes. I need to stop being so lazy.

And a Sniff Sniff There and Cough Cough Here

Yesterday I met with the Model Team in Glasgow. The most prominent agency in Scotland. Basically they said they will represent me as a commercial model only if Coultish isn't Mother Agency because it isn't worth their time to represent me for only 4 months if they have to pay out a commission to Coultish. Commercial only because I'm short and old. I emailed my lovely Victoria agency and we have come to an agreement where this works out perfectly. Yay. Bring on the commercial jobs!

Other than that, Glasgow was a lot of fun. We met up with 2 other Canadians who loosely knew Meghan. We got VIP entrance to a comedy club that night where one of the Canadians (Christof) was performing. It was a lot of fun. We then trained back to Edinburgh on the 10:30pm train with vegetarian Burger King Kids' Meals.

In other news I've come down with a nasty cold that started with my Dad then went to Meghan, then Becka, and now me. I guess bragging about my killer immune system yesterday was stupid because today my throat has been KILLING me. Luckily I'm in the land of tea. Peppermint was my evening choice.

I've attached two photos Miss. Becka took of me in some of my new threads.

While Victoria is experiencing a lovely heat wave I'm still freezing my butt off in S-Land.

My make-up routine has become really lazy: mascara and lipstick.

It's time for me to go do a hot olive oil home treatment on my hair. It's SOOOO brittle and the ends are a completely different colour than the roots. The moisture rich air and indoor heating are really doing a number on my precious locks.

I leave you with some songs I've been loving lately. They aren't new songs so my apologies if you heard these ones before and were hoping for some new tunes.
Love the video too!

Who doesn't love a skinny white guy busting a move? I know I've been hooked since Napoleon Dynamite stole my grade 9 heart with his sick dance moves.

Nick showed me this video because he pretty much wishes RL was like this.

Lets get some Food.

Anybody who knows me well knows that I love food and have always had a big appetite. I have a terrible model-diet, but I live an active lifestyle and know when it's time to diet. Having a fast metabolism is something I am definitely blessed to have (thanks Mom and Dad).

Anyways....on to the pictures of food!

Hahahaha....Becka we aren't in Victoria anymore

So much better than lemon water.

                Creatively-altered chalk board= winning

Paninis are big here. However, I have yet to find one as delicious as Bean Around the World.

Only 2 blocks away...bring on the ass...and the smiles :)

Becka and I ate a lot of European pizza. The only food to ever make me cry. In France one day I ate so much European pizza...like I actually just wouldn't quit. I don't know if my hypothalamus was out of commission that day or what, but I literally ate so much that I cried because I was in pain. This time I was more careful.

Well this concludes my [first] entry on food.

New Town is Old

My new home and room are lovely. A little musty smelling and COLD. Summer is officially over in Scotland; bring on the brrrr! The upstairs of my residence has a website (http://www.stevenson-house.co.uk/). We ate breakfast with the MacFies on our first morning here. Very surreal. 5 kids! Here is a photo of the outside of my new residence.

Please ignore the semi-sideburn look I have going on.

Fashion:
The women here wear floral prints dresses: cute. The punk scene exists. Men actually give a sh*t when it comes to clothing.
I am on the prowl. My prey? A faux-fur vest and a chunky "look at me" watch. Unfortunately the watch I've began to stalk is a Marc by Marc Jacobs. A little out of my price range, but very beautiful. The broke student in me can't go in for the kill. I'm fairly certain the most expensive thing I own is my glasses frames, and those are a necessity (aren't they?).

Music:
Yesterday while in my first Edinburgh-pub I saw an ad for a Kasabian UK tour this fall/winter. I definitely have to look into this. "Fire" has been one of my favourite songs for a long time.

Food:
So far I've eaten Japanese, Kurdish, and random UK tidbits here and there. Japanese= pricey. Kurdish= delicious!! I went to my first UK Starbucks today...very similar to home (yay)! The produce here is itty-bittty (probably because it isn't jacked up GMOs), from South Africa, and different tasting.
Oh and my first beer in a pub here was Heineken. I took a picture and thought of Kristen.

Culture:
I need a sign for around my neck that reads "Canadian" or even "Not a Yankee". Nobody has asked me where I'm from instead I just feel slightly ignored. However, customer service definitely exists here (unlike France) which is fantastic. I love the abundance of pubs, nail bars, art studios, and cafes.
An immense amount of people actually have red hair. Stereotype confirmed.

My apologies for the boring post. I am still jetlagged and self-conscious. Give me time and it will improve.

Ps- contacted the Model Team today. Fingers crossed.
